Frequently asked questions

How do I book my tattoo?

Please submit the enquiry form on the home page. I aim to respond to all booking requests within a couple of days, be sure to check your junk folder as sometimes replies end up there! In person consultations are not usually necessary but if you'd feel more comfortable meeting to discuss your tattoo this can be arranged.

What is the address for the studio?

Bristol: Long Fox Tattoo, Meriton Foundry, Meriton St, Bristol BS2 0SZ

Newport: Miss Rie's Tattoo Studio, 7 Caerleon Rd, Newport NP19 7BU

How much do you charge?

I charge by the hour so the price will depend on a number of factors including size, level of detail in the design, and location on the body. I also have a set day rate which is for a minimum of 5 hours tattooing (if we need to go slightly over this time to finish the piece you won't pay any extra). I offer competitive hourly and daily rates, and will be able to provide an estimate once we have discussed your ideas. Please let me know if you have a budget as I can usually accomodate this by splitting sessions up where necessary.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes a £50 deposit is required to secure your appointment, which will then be deducted from the total cost of your tattoo. Deposits are non-refundable unless you reschedule your booking (please give at least 48 hours notice), in which case your deposit will be held for your new appointment.

Can I bring a child/partner with me?

Under 18s are not permitted on the premises. Under normal circumstances, you should come to your tattoo appointment alone. If there are extenuating circumstances that require you to bring an additional person to your appointment, please mention this in your tattoo enquiry.

Can I use numbing cream?

It is not recommended to use numbing creams as adverse reactions are possible. They can also change how well your skin takes the ink and cause complications to healing. If you do feel the need to use numbing cream, please be aware that this may affect the outcome of your tattoo. I will not accept responsibility for any issues resulting from the use of numbing creams.

Will it hurt?

Yes, a certain level of discomfort is to be expected, but most people find it bearable. The pain varies depending on the location of the tattoo. Try not to think of the least painful place to get the tattoo but go for where you really want it - pain is temporary but the tattoo is not!

Can I have breaks?

We can take breaks as frequently as necessary, within reason. You are encouraged to bring food/drinks with you if you have booked a day session so we can have a lunch break. Even if you have a shorter session booked it's a good idea to bring a sugary drink with you.

Can I wear headphones during the session?

Yes, I realise not everyone wants to chat during their tattoo and that's absolutely fine!

Can I drink alcohol before the appointment?

I will not be able to tattoo you if you turn up to your appointment intoxicated or hungover.

Can you tattoo over scars/stretch marks?

Yes absolutely, but the scar needs to be fully healed. There are certain limitations to which designs will work for covering scars, but I can advise once I have seen the scar.

Do you do cover ups?

Yes, I'll need to see the existing tattoo and advise whether my style will be suitable.

What if my tattoo needs a touchup?

Please contact me if you are concerned about any aspect of the tattoo healing process. Touchups are free within the first year, providing all aftercare has been adhered to, which includes avoiding the use of sunbeds, intentional damage to the skin, use of non-recommended aftercare products.
